Derrie Mathews asked her beautician to do her spray tan twice to counteract her pale complexion, but she woke up looking like Ross from Friends after his epic spray tan fail
A mum has been left feeling mortified after a hilarious spray tan fail left her resembling Ross from Friends.
Derrie Mathews had no one to blame but herself, after asking the beautician if she could be sprayed twice, in a bid to compensate for her ‘super pale’ natural red head complexion.
The 36-year-old went to get the £25 treatment two days before a wedding in order to give her winter skin a warm, summer glow – but she couldn’t quite believe her eyes when she woke up the next morning.
“I was going to a wedding, and I’m super, super pale – I am really freckly and white. So, I just asked the girl if she would do it twice, so much darker,” Derrie explained.
At first, the mum didn’t notice much of a difference to her complexion and it wasn’t until she woke up the following day that she realised she’d made a huge mistake.
Derrie said: “You have to leave it on for eight hours and then wash it off after, and it was just getting darker and darker and darker.
“But I didn’t wash it off after eight hours because it stops developing then.”
On Friday morning, when she awoke and looked in the mirror, she couldn’t believe the shade that she’d turned, much to the amusement of her husband.
“l was aghast at what I looked like. My husband couldn’t stop laughing, and my daughter was petrified that anyone would see me. I knew I looked so ridiculous, so I didn’t tell him not to do it. I fully deserved everything!”
Derrie’s double spray tan blunder is reminiscent of the famous Friends episode, in which Ross misunderstands the tanning booth, and ends up getting sprayed with two twos – twice!
She said: “When the girl did it, my friend was with me, and I was saying, ‘I’m an eight, I’m an eight’ because that’s what Ross says!”
But despite her tanning experience not quite going to plan, Derrie hasn’t been put off spray tans and says she’ll definitely be returning in the future.
“I will go back – it makes me feel better when I have a tan,” she said. “It’s nice to have a little bit of colour, but not the boot polish look – it’s not for me, I must say.”
